When We Are Well-Intentioned

Jan 15, 2025

The New Year is often a time filled with hope, excitement, and resolutions, but how often do we find ourselves falling back into old patterns? This week, I dive into a topic close to my heart—how to shift from being “well-intentioned” to truly intentional. I share my journey of transforming my life through intentional living and offer actionable steps for you to do the same.

Key Insights:

"True transformation is by design—architected to our unique, authentic selves. What do your blueprints look like?"

Life isn’t just about making plans; it’s about taking deliberate, purposeful action. I explore how to move beyond hope and into intentional living.

Well-Intentioned vs. Being Intentional

I discuss the difference between being well-intentioned which describes our motivation behind why we want to achieve something, while "being intentional" describes our execution of those things with a clear purpose.

It’s easy to start the year with excitement and lose steam as distractions and old habits creep in, but you can make lasting transformations, not just surface-level changes.

For years, I lived in the cycle of setting the same goals each January, only to fall short by mid-year. I realized that being well-intentioned wasn’t enough—I needed to become intentional. Through my journey, I’ve discovered the power of deliberate action and how it can transform our lives.

Practical Steps:

      Be Aware
  • Our awareness of what we desire is so important. Check in with yourself. What changes are you hoping for?
  • Why do you want these changes?
  •  What is truly important to me? Not just the goals you think you should have but also the ones that align with your values and vision for your life.
  • Remember, if your goals and intentions do not align with your values, you will have difficulty keeping them.
  • Also, be aware of the choices you are making and their consequences. Remember when the clock turned over to the new year? Nothing but the time changed. We still have our same patterns, triggers, and traumas, so we have to be aware when making decisions and the consequences they will bring.       We are used to making choices from the same old version of ourselves.  It is crucial for us to recognize this. When this happens, Pause. Refocus and Remind yourself why your goal or goals matter and take the next intentional step forward.

      Be Deliberate:

  • Everything we do from our thinking, our behavior, and our choices should “BE INTENTIONAL” ON PURPOSE!
  • We should no longer be flying by the seat of our pants. We are no longer living reactionary but intentional.
  • Take time to pause before we move, speak, and answer.
  • Stay aware and be deliberate.

Remember, we are turning intentional into a verb! Creating a life of freedom means we take intentional, deliberate actions that promote our values and the life we want.  Most of the time we are doing things that we have to do or we think we should do instead of doing the things that align with who we are and our values.

Reflection Exercise:

Take a moment to write down answers to these questions:

  • What values are guiding my life right now?
  • What do I want to create or transform this year?
  • What’s one small, deliberate action I can take today?

Key Takeaways:

  • Being intentional means more than having good intentions—it’s about taking deliberate action.
  • True transformation comes from aligning our goals with our values.
  • Distractions are inevitable, but we have the power to meet them with clarity and purpose.

Final Thoughts:

This year doesn’t have to look like the last. By shifting from “well-intentioned” to intentional, you can create a life that aligns with your authentic self. Let’s take deliberate steps together toward freedom, growth, and transformation.
